This is a work in progress.  When finished, it will have two round plastic handles (pictured right) and be lined with a heavy red cotton.

The inspiration for this piece came from these handles, which I found at a quilt show some years ago.  The eyes remind me of my mother's very green eyes and the snout and chin remind me of my old Springer Spaniel.  Haha.

This is a 2' x 3' rug of Stormy the Appaloosa and Buster the Springer Spaniel.  They never knew each other, but I put them together because they both meant so much to my kids and I.

I attended a class taught by a master rug hooking teacher (Jon Ciemewicz) who is brilliant with animals.  I traced my own pattern and took instruction from him.  He was particularly helpful with the eyes of both pets and my Springer's mouth.

This is a wall hanging desiged by Warren Kimble and hooked by me. I purchased the pattern from the Woolley Fox. Having grown up in Canada, I tend to like anything that reminds me of my youth.  I can't take credit for the color selection in this rug, as I liked it exactly as  Sherry Sayles hooked it.

This is a commissioned piece - a 2' x 3' rug I originally designed as a welcome mat (the original has the word "welcome" above and between the antlers).  The person who commissioned this was putting it on the wall above her bed and did not want the word "welcome" to be hooked into the mat. I can't imagine why, lol.

I wanted to design an old fashioned Santa as a wall hanging.  This fellow is the result.  I auctioned him off on ebay to raise funds for my rug hooking chapter.

1776

I loved this hanging when I saw it in Rug Hooking Magazine.  The designer, Cathy Tokheim/Old Friends Woolens, offered it as a free pattern - hooray!  The original was quite large, so I resized it to fit as a hanging on an antique pine dresser. It also doubles as a door hanger when the 4th of July rolls around.  The original had "In God We Trust" across the banner, but I liked the 1776 connection for my version.

Small Footstool

I adapted this from a rug pattern titled "Autumn's Grand Finale" by Barb Adams.  The pattern was offered in a Blackbird Designs book, In Praise of Autumn, by Barb Adams and Alma Allen.  I hooked this in two pieces (top and sides) and sewed them together.  I have this at the foot of the red wingback chair I sit in to do my hooking.
